The market of “market-haters”.

The Chilean counterculture claims to hate the consumer society, and they tray to express this with a bunch of symbols like cloth fashion, music and accessories. As the number of counter culturists grow, the demand of these symbols grows with it, ergo, a complete powerful market made for the market-haters.

If you come to Chile or live in it, you will be able to contact with many counter-cultural tribes. The “pokemones”: a weird form of human been that hates the consumer society their parents built are on of the biggest markets for Reggaeton (The most selling music now a days in this country), and are huge buyers of certain cloth and shoes brands, they also are a special target for hair straighteners and hair dye.

Neo-hippies or “alternatives” are supposed to live in small apartments near some green areas and they totally criticize the excessive shopping and everything that has to do with it, like malls. They push the use of small neighborhood-stores, but they need to have a Mac Laptop, I-pod and lots of “naturally wrecked pants”. But none of those can be bought in little neighborhood stores.

The point is that, unless you supply your self all or most of all your needs, you will be a part of the consumer’s society. There for, every symbol or “unique” characteristic that a certain “massive/alternative” has, they will have to pay for eat and feed the part of society they hate so much.

Love it or hate it, you will buy it.
